Fashion Incubators Gala Dinner - September 24, 2011

Attended by more than 100 local, national and international fashion industry delegates; liquid bubbles flowed and guests dined on delicious bites while watching inspiring fashions float down the runway.

Belmont in Fashion - September 20, 2011
Belmont community organisations hosted the Third International Conference of Fashion Incubators recently. Textile Clothing Footwear Resource Centre of WA (TCFWA), designedge Fashion Incubator, TCF Global and the Belmont BEC hosted the event, which featured speakers including Susan Langdon of the Toronto Fashion Incubator and Sheelagh Wright of the University for the Creative Arts in the UK. The conference built on past successful conferences of International Fashion Incubators held in the UK and US. It was made possible by support provided by the City of Perth Convention Scholarship to enable TCFWA manager Carol Hanlon to travel to the US in 2009 and bid for the third conference to be staged in Perth. The conference offered new opportunities for fashion business educators and fashion trade events from around the globe to network, discuss best practice and expand on global designer marketing and promotional opportunities.

International Support for Local Fashion - September 15, 2011
SPECIAL guests attended the finale of the third International Fashion Incubators conference at the Parmelia Hilton. During the conference, up and coming designers were given the opportunity to hear guest speakers share their insider secrets and tips for making it big in the fashion industry. Special guests included global fashion executives from over 20 countries including the UK, Nigeria, Indonesia and Canada were all in Perth for the style conference. The Fashion Incubator initiative helps to support young talent by gaining business knowledge and global exposure for their brands. During the finale gala at the Hilton local labels Breathless, Leanne Lim and Betty Sugar were among those showcased during a fashion parade. Spotted were Sylvia Giacci, Carol Hanlon and Susan Langdon.

Fashion and Business mix and match at International Conference of Fashion Incubators - September 14, 2011
The third international conference of Fashion Incubators, an initiative to nurture and support up and coming designers, saw fashion delegates from 24 countries visit Perth. 34 seminar presentations were made during the three-day conference covering a wide range of fashion-related business topics. Speakers included Susan Langdon from Toronto Fashion Incubator, Sheelagh Wright from Britain's University for the Creative Arts, Indonesia Fashion Week's Ali Charisma and Karen Webster from RMIT in Melbourne. It culminated with a three-course dinner at the Parmelia Hilton. Guests watched on as new season collections hit the runway, including local labels Leanne Lim, Hue Le and Cinderocker. The conference also announced the establishment of an International Fashion Incubator Organisation.

Perth Gears Up for Fashion Week - August 4, 2011
Organisations are already underway for the first inaugural Perth Fashion Week, which has just been announced as an event partner for this year's Fashion Incubators Conference. The event is expected to attract buyers, models, media and fashion savvy shoppers alike, providing attendees with the opportunity to network and engage with fashion. Perth Fashion Week will be run over five days and include on site collection shows and collection showrooms showcasing the work of both recognised and up-and-coming designers. Third International Fashion Incubators Conference in Perth - August 1, 2011
The 3rd International Conference of Fashion Incubators will offer new opportunities for fashion business educators and fashion trade events from around the globe to network, discuss best practice and expand global designer marketing and promotional opportunities. Susan Langdon will address the conference on Selling to Canada: DIY or Hiring an Agent and also on the Past, Present & Future of TFI. TFI is an award-winning, non-profit organization that provides critical support, resources and workspace to new and emerging fashion entrepreneurs. Developed in 1987 by the City of Toronto, TFI is the world’s first official fashion incubator and the longest-running centre of its kind. Conference attendees will discover the TFI story from humble beginning and growing pains, to lessons learned, present day successes and challenges, and future strategies. This presentation will encourage attendees to engage in conversational dialogue and idea-sharing, with a focus on future growth opportunities for all fashion incubators.

International Conference to Hit Perth - November 29, 2009
Industry players will have the chance to fine tune their business prowess when the third International Fashion Incubator Conference is held in Perth next year. The international event is designed to cover issues such as fashion business growth, fibres, textiles, financing and business support. A key aspect will the the launch of an International Fashion Incubator Organisation. This will be designed to help fashion professionals form alliances, share networks and develop business opportunities. Founding manager of the Textile Clothing Footwear Resource Centre, Carol Hanlon said the conference has previously been held in the US and UK, however she made a bid to bring it to Perth. This was enabled by a scholarshop granted by the City of Perth Convention Scholarship programme.

Fashion and Business a Winning Match - July 1, 2009
A business facilitator who helps emerging fashion designers has won the City of Perth Convention Scholarship. Carol Hanlon is the founding manager of the Textile, Clothing and Footwear Resource Centre and the Belmont Business Enterprise Centre, which provides advice and assistance to small businesses. She is also founder and manager of Designedge, a business incubator which provides access to business information, mentoring and an online outlet for emerging fashion designers. Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi presented Ms Hanlon with the $10,000 scholarship at an awards ceremony at the Perth Town Hall.

Scholarship for Conference of Fashion Incubators - June 6, 2009
$60,000 at a breakfast in the Perth Town Hall. The scholarships have been awarded annually since 1999 by the bureau. The program being expanded this year to include metropolitan Perth's five universities - Curtin, Edith Cowan, Murdoch, Notre Dame and UWA. A City of Perth sponsored scholarship worth $10,000 and open to representatives of not-for-profit organisations in WA was won by Carol Hanlon, the founder and CEO of the Textile Clothing Footwear Resource Centre and founding manager of the Belmont Business Enterprise Centre. She plans to use her scholarship to attend the 2nd International Conference of Fashion Incubators in the US this year where she will explore the potential for Perth to host the conference in 2011.

Manager wins $10,000 Scholarship for her Work - May 12, 2009
Belmont business leader Carol Hanlon has won a $10,000 education and travel scholarship for her work in establishing the Textile Clothing Footwear Resource Centre of WA (TCFRC) and the Belmont Business Enterprise Centre (BEC). The TCFRC and BEC manager will travel to the second International Fashion Incubator in Atlanta later this year as part of her prize. She said her win was bittersweet, coming just days after the Small Business Development Corporation announced it would be cutting $96,000 funding for the BEC from June 30.

Fashion’s Helping Hand Wins Award - May 1, 2009
A business facilitator who helps emerging fashion designers has won the City of Perth Convention Scholarship. Carol Hanlon the founding manager of the Textile, Clothing Footwear Resource Centre and the Belmont Business Enterprise Centre was presented with a $10,000 scholarship by Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi today. The award ceremony was held at the Perth Town Hall. Ms Hanlon is also founder and manager of Designedge, a business incubator which provides access to business information, mentoring and an online outlet for emerging fashion designers. The scholarship is funded by the City of Perth and is an initiative of the Perth Convention Bureau, which markets WA as a business events destination. The professional development scholarships are open to people representing a non-profit association, government agency or academic institution. The scholarships aim to nurture "local champions" who are keen to attract conferences that align with the State's areas of excellence. The money can be used to attend a relevant international conference with a view to attracting it to Perth in the future or to developing expertise that would assist in this process. Ms Hanlon said she would use part of the scholarship money to attend the International Conference of Fashion Incubators in Atlanta, US, in December. She would present a case for the next conference to be held in Perth as well as selling the Perth's credentials as a leading edge fashion design centre. "Winning this conference for Perth would increase global recognition of our fashion industry as well the best-practice ‘virtual' fashion incubator concept," Hanlon said.

designedge first started in 2003 as part of the designedge - TCF Australia Uncovered trade exhibition staged in Perth by the Textile Clothing Footwear Resource Centre of WA (TCFWA) at the Burswood Resort Complex. Given the boom of online shopping worldwide, designedge then moved online to www.designedge.net.au. The designedge Fashion Incubator was the only virtual fashion incubator in Australia and provided a virtual shop front for more than 40 small fashion businesses currently, and 10 feature Indigenous designers.
